Over the last couple of years the budget and mid-range smartphone market has really been heating up.
We are seeing more and more companies coming out with phones, many aspiring brands bringing in higher end features to their budget friendly phones.
This is surely a good thing for consumers, as we are getting better hardware, nicer features and companies that are putting more of their time into their lower tier products.
So Alcatel has previously been featured in this magazine and put through their paces.
Their handsets are lower budget but introduce slightly higher end features, you get fast fingerprint recognition, face unlock, dual cameras, nippy OS and overall a good experience for the price.
The Alcatel 3L was put through a full day of testing and I have to say, it's a nifty little phone. I absolutely LOVE the Super Full View Display which is a whopping 88.4% screen-to-body ration and really made it a joy to watch movies and YouTube.
It even has that adorable little teardrop design that only gets in the way to house the front facing camera.
The phone feels great, lightweight but sturdy and has a tactile smooth finish to it with beautiful colour renditions on the case.
As well as having a brilliant screen / style it has a decent amount of power under the hood for most cases such as a Quad Core chipset, 2GB RAM and a long-lasting 3500mAh battery.
Most apps runs great, it does struggle a little with more intensive applications but that is pretty much ALL phones in this budget area, as they are turned more towards the higher tier phones.
The dual cameras on the Alcatel 3L will be a selling point for some too, everyone loves having a decent shooter on their smartphone, so why would this be any different?
It houses a 13MP + 5MP dual setup that creates a nice image in bright daylight, it even uses AI scene detection to enhance 21 different types of photo subjects.
You can also use the depth mapping to create bokeh and post-shot refocus your scenes.
Have to say that on a sunny day the images are very pleasing, however once the daylight dips and the scenes become harder to expose, the cameras do struggle to get pleasing noiseless images, but I have to say they do slightly better than most other budget phones I've tested this year.
For the price of £109.23, Alcatel warrants a look for your next budget purchase.
