LUME Cube 2.0
As you may have previously seen I am a big fan of LUME Cube products up to this point, with their original LUME Cube and the Cube AIR being fantastic little lights.
The Cube lighting kit you need!
As you may have previously seen I am a big fan of LUME Cube products up to this point, with their original LUME Cube and the Cube AIR being fantastic little lights.
So does the new LUME Cube 2.0 keep up with those expectations of greatness?
First off let's talk about the new design LUME Cube 2.0 and what improvements have been made.
First off, I have to say that the original LUME Cube was great, however it did have it's flaws.
The main one that hindered me after a while during use was the 'guessing' of power setting, as there was no indication and you could only cycle one way.
That meant if you were at 50% power but needed 20%, you'd have to cycle all the way round to 100% and back up to 20%.
This has been resolved in LUME Cube 2.0 along with MANY upgrades that give quality of life improvements, just look at this list below.
LUME Cube 2.0 Improvements:
Increase/Decrease brightness
Improved Lens & Wider Beam Angle
Longer Run Time up to 1.5h at 100%
Manual controls
True 5600K Colour Temperature
Dedicated Low Light Mode
Less Heat Output
Improved Optical Sensor (Flash Capability)
USB-C Charging + Indicator Light
Accessories Included in Box
As you can see there is a hefty amount of upgrades here, all of them improve the device to something that should be in every photographers / videographers backpack.
I love that there is now an indicator for when it's fully charged (which was guess work previously), as well as the USB-C compatibility which future proofs it and gives better charge rates. Not to mention that juicy run time of 1.5h on 100% at a glorious 750 Lux at 1M.
The ability to not only increase but decrease brightness in 10% increments AS WELL as 1% increments using low light mide is fantastic.
The main thing ofcourse with any light source is the quality and strength of that light, which is another area that LUME have focused on.
Not only is the lens and light quality improved, with a CRI of 95+ and a beam angle of 80 degrees with no hotspot but the colour temperature is a nice neutral 5600K.
All of that means you get a more natural skin tone, truer colours, as well as a more evenly lit scene.
LUME have also included some accessories in the box such as a hot shoe mount, modification frame, warming gel and a diffusion light filter. Giving you more options straight out of the gate.
You can also purchase a Professional lighting kit bundle that gives you INSANE amount of accessories and lighting modifiers, which I highly recommend for anyone looking at being creative.
Professional lighting kit includes:
DSLR Camera Mount with Light-Stand Adapter
Modification Frame
Two CTO Warming Gels
One Diffusion Bulb
Two Flat White Diffusers
RGBY Color Gels (4 pack of Red/Green/Blue/Yellow)
Two Honeycomb Grids
One Snoot + One (1) Barn Door
One USB-C Charging Cable + One (1) Zipper Case
Overall the LUME Cube 2.0 is a HUGE thumbs up, a quality improvement in many many areas.
Every photographer or cinematographer should grab a couple and throw them in your bag (which you can easily do due to them being sturdy metal and waterproof to 30m!).
