As a lover of the VR niche that has steadily been growing over the last few years, I have seen one inherent problem with the current gen.
That being the fact that wearing glasses in a headset is an absolute PAIN.
From some glass frames being too large to even get into the headset, to the uncomfortable feeling of them scraping the insides, or even potentially scratching your glasses or the VR lenses themselves.
This is where VROptician comes in to save the day!
VROptician came onto my radar recently, after I had just got my Quest 3.
My glasses were frustrating me, either getting stuck in the headset or scaring me that I may end up causing some expensive damage to the glass.
I knew there had to be a solution out there.
Design and Installation
The lenses are designed in a way that they snap easily over the headset’s existing lenses. No tools needed and no hassle.
The build quality feels robust, and installation is as simple as aligning and pressing them onto the original VR lenses.
They lock in securely, staying put even during intense VR sessions.
I’ve used them in every game going as well as in VR fitness applications, head shaking, large body movement, it never once caused an issue.
In fact it provided me LESS hassle due to not having the glasses on and sloshing about.
Visual Quality
The inserts deliver enhanced clarity and eliminates the need for my regular glasses.
The clarity improvement is immediately noticeable, creating a sharp, immersive VR experience that feels more lifelike.
The optional coating—ZEISS DuraVision BlueProtect—further enhances the visuals. The anti-glare coating reduces reflections, and the blue-light filter helps to reduce eye strain during extended use.
Immediately I could notice just how much more of the surroundings in games I could see, as your eye is sitting closer to the headset lenses and not having to be pressed against external lenses.
It was clearer, more vibrant, had less light leak and did make me fully immerse into the environments in ways I couldn’t before.
This is in part surely down to the ZEISS lenses that they use, world renowned for making impeccable and unbeatable quality lenses, from VR to Cameras.
Very smart move by VROptician to partner with them!
Comfort and Fit
Wearing traditional glasses with a VR headset really caused me uncomfortable pressure on my face and frequent adjustments. These inserts are designed to fit flush with the headset lenses, creating a seamless experience without the bulk of traditional eyewear. They expanded the comfort of my experience infinitely.
The lightweight lenses don’t add any noticeable weight, preserving the original balance of the headset. Honestly I hardly noticed they were even in there.
Durability and Maintenance
Crafted from high-quality materials, the lenses are durable and scratch-resistant, even with regular use. These are ZEISS lenses after all, lots of people consider them the best of the best in the optical world.
Thankfully there is a Lotus effect layer on the lenses that helps keep moisture and steam from the lenses, as the liquid does not ‘stick’.
So giving them a wipe over with a microfiber cloth keeps them nice and clean.
Given that these lenses are meant to be semi-permanent additions, they’re built to last, which makes the initial cost more justifiable.
Cost and Value
These prescription inserts aren’t exactly pocket change.
They start from £59 here in the UK for prescription lenses, or £42 for just the simple Plano lenses, which can help improve the clarity and the longevity of your headset.
They offer significant value, especially for avid VR users.
Glasses wearers who often experience discomfort or visual distortion will likely find this investment well worth the upgrade.
The durability, enhanced comfort, and improved visuals offer a substantial boost to the VR experience. Which in my eyes, makes them absolutely necessary for the best experience in VR possible.
Also from the time of ordering to arrival was a mere 6 days, that is from Germany straight to the UK, remarkable.
Final Verdict
VROpticians prescription inserts in my opinion are the number one accessory for the Meta Quest 3.
I cannot think of another item for a similar price that would enhance my playing experience more than these lenses.
No more fiddling with lenses, no more readjusting, no more steaming up, it’s a breath of fresh air. Not to mention that you can see MORE of the field of view in the headset, that opens up a new perspective on even older content.
Whether you are a VR enthusiast or just a frequent user of a VR headset who wears glasses, these will absolutely transform your experience.
I highly recommend these and it comes from personal experience, someone who has had this exact problem, now glad it has been fixed!
